Attendance

As part of our commitment to improving the attainment of our pupils, we monitor pupil attendance on a regular basis to help support families and resolve any issues that may cause children to be unnecessarily absent from school.

In order to encourage good attendance at school, we raise awareness by:

  • Presenting a weekly certificate for the class with the highest average attendance, which are displayed around the school
  • Providing extra playtime for the class with the least amount of late marks each week
  • Rewarding classes that achieve 100% attendance for a week with engraved pencils

We hold termly attendance awards for children that achieved 100% attendance during a school term. Where possible, we make allowances for children that have missed 100% attendance by one morning or afternoon session (provided that the absence was authorised by the school.) We also take into account individual circumstances, such as when a child has made a special effort to attend school as much as possible alongside having a specific medical need.

We understand that children may be absent due to illness during the school year. If your child has missed the 100% award for a term due to illness (e.g. chicken pox, vomiting and diarrhoea), please do not be discouraged as eligibility to attend future awards starts again from the next term.
