Letter to Parents 8/9/20

Dear Parents /Carers,

First of all, can I say a huge thank you to all of you for getting your children here at the right time and in the right place!  No small feat.

I know that it will take time to get completely used to this system, but to be honest I hope we can all get back to whatever normal is soon.

Unfortunately, we still have a few children turning up late, in our new staggered entry system, this causes huge problems for keeping our bubbles separate as we just do not have the number of staff to cope with late children.  So please make sure you are on time.

For all of you who have been so positive at the gates, I thank you. It seems that the children have all settled back into school like a fish to water, I suppose they are really happy to see their friends and to be back with their teachers.  So far, it has been a very positive start for us all.

On another note, I was informed on Friday that Miss Wise was not going to be allowed to be with a full class of children. This advice was from her midwife and we must, as a school, ensure the health and safety of everyone. I am sorry that I have not had a chance, with all the other arrangements, to get this letter out to you sooner. We are fortunate to have Mrs. Keminsky who is an experienced teacher taking the class every morning and for two afternoons, the other afternoons will be taken by Mrs. Culverhouse. Can I assure you all that year 5 works very much as a team and all the work the class is covering will be planned for within the bubble.  Miss Wise will also remain in charge of the classes marking & feedback.

Can I also clarify how breakfast club is running at this present time.  Unfortunately, due to the pressures of space and accessibility in line with the government guidelines, we must put a cap on the total numbers. We are able to allocate 20 places. Therefore, children must have a place booked in advance. We have set the following procedure, and it is really important that this is followed for the safety of staff and children:

Please email kay.lewthwaite@rowdown.croydon.sch.uk each week to book a place. Bookings must be made before midday on Fridays, and will not be accepted after that. When you book, please make clear the date and time – we have 2 start times 7.30am and 8am – and also if the children are having a breakfast or just coming in for supervision this will assist with our ordering. Please ensure you pay in advance the first day your child arrives at breakfast club that week.

If children turn up for breakfast club without a booking, or at any other time than specified, we will not be able to let them in.

We are all still getting accustomed to the way things are and I am sure as time passes we will find them easier until we are given the all clear, which I hope is in the near future.

If I may, I would like to end with something funny, there was a rumour that the children are peeing in the playground as it was reported by a child to her mother. Obviously the child’s mother was very concerned, as she should have been, the parent queried this with one of our TAs to be told that we are indeed peeing in the playground but in large portaloo cabin with toilets. These will be gone very soon. This just made me laugh!

Kind regards,
