Summer Term

It was lovely to see so many of you at parents evening at the end of the Spring term.

Well done to all of the children who have achieved 100% attendance during the Spring term. As a year group we need to keep working on attendance. Please make sure your child is in school every day in order for them to continue to make progress.

We have PE on Monday (outdoors) and Friday (indoors). Please ensure that your child always has the correct PE kit in school for these days.

  • Miss Wise’s accuracy group will continue to have a spelling test once every two weeks on the spelling rules they are learning in class.  Even though we have finished learning the first 100 and the next 200 high frequency words in class, please continue to learn these at home. You will find these words at the front of your child’s reading record.
  • Mrs Gilbert’s accuracy group have a spelling test once every two weeks on the spelling rules they are learning in lessons.

In addition you can help your child at home by:

  1. Reading every evening.  We have a great selection of books for your child to borrow in our class library. It is important to write in your child’s reading record when they read to you, including any useful notes. We also have a lunch time book club that your child could attend on a Wednesday and a Friday. Please encourage your child to go, and ensure that they have their reading record in school every day.
  2. Learning times tables and number facts.  Children who cannot recall their times tables at speed struggle during maths lessons. The children are given kung fu tests to practise their tables. They are also given star tests to learn number facts. Please make sure you practise with your child at home. There are lots of times tables apps that can be downloaded onto smart phones.

The following websites are great for practising  skills:

This term our topics are:

Children love to be knowledgeable in front of their friends. Reading around a subject will help them. Please select books from the library or appropriate websites to help them gain some additional knowledge on our topics.

Please make sure that your child is at their entrance to the school by 8.40am
