Summer Term

We hope you all had a lovely Easter. The summer term is now here and we welcome Mrs Akther as the new teacher of Darwin class. Miss Verrell was married over the Easter holidays and is now Mrs Dodd. We are expecting to  see improvements in punctuality and attendance in Year 5 between now and the end of the summer term. Einstein class are also excited to present their class assembly in a few weeks.

We have PE on Tuesday (indoor) and Friday (outdoor). Please ensure that your child always has the correct PE kit in school for these days.

Both accuracy groups have spelling lists for the half term. Please make sure that the children practise for their weekly spelling test (usually Mondays).

In addition you  can help your child at home by:

  1. Reading every evening.  Please read with your child every evening and support your child to write meaningful comments about what they have read (there is a Book Talk sheet in their reading records for support). We collect the reading records every Friday and good comments are rewarded with chance cards and prizes.
  2. Learning times tables.  Your child is given back the Kung Fu and Number Stars tests they have not passed. Please go over the tests with them so that they are ready to pass it next time.

The following websites are great for practising  skills:

  • Woodlands Mathszone – variety of maths games and puzzles.
  • BBC Bitesize KS2
  • Primary Homework help
  • Easimaths

This half term our topics are:

  1. Literacy – Holes, Journey to Jo’burg and The London Eye Mystery
  2. Numeracy – decimal numbers and geometry (properties of shapes)
  3. Science – All Living Things
  4. Humanities- Geography (locational, place knowledge and human and physical geography of the UK and the world)

Children love to be knowledgeable in front of their friends. Reading around a subject will help them. Please select books from the library or appropriate websites to help them gain some additional knowledge on our topics.

Please make sure that your child is at their entrance to the school by 8.40am.
