Summer Term in Year 4

We hope you enjoyed the Easter break; hopefully we can look forward to some nicer weather this term.

PE: We have PE on Mondays and Wednesdays. Please ensure that your child always has the correct PE kit* in school for these days. The children do indoor and outdoor PE and need clothing that is appropriate for both.

*School PE kit is a red or blue T-shirt with black shorts/tracksuit bottoms and plimsolls/trainers.

Homework - Please write comments in your child’s reading record after listening to them read. The children will be given weekly times table tests that they should practise at home.

In addition you can help your child at home by:

  1. Reading every evening.  We have a great selection of books for your child to borrow in our class library.
  2. Learning times tables.  Children who cannot recall their times tables at speed struggle during maths lessons. There is not a great deal of time to learn these during the school day. Please make sure that your child practises at home.

The following websites are great for practising  skills:

This term our topics are:

  1. Literacy –
  • When Jessie Came Across the Sea by Amy Hest
  • Edward Tulane by Kate DiCamillo
  1. Numeracy -
  • Number and calculation
  • Fractions and decimals
  • Shape, space and measure
  1. Science -
  •  Animals
  1. Humanities -
  • Vikings
  • Buddhism

Children love to be knowledgeable in front of their friends. Reading around a subject will help them. Please select books from the library or appropriate websites to help them gain some additional knowledge on our topics.

Please make sure that your child is at their entrance to the school by 8.40am.
