MFL Vision

At Rowdown Primary School we believe that a high-quality languages education should foster pupils’ curiosity and deepen their understanding of the world.  Our teaching enables pupils to express their ideas and thoughts in another language and to understand and respond to its speakers, both in speech and writing.  It also provides opportunities for them to communicate for practical purposes.

Our primary language taught at Rowdown is French.  We teach French through singing in KS1 and KS2.  In addition to singing in KS2, French is taught through regular lessons.  In these lessons, children learn to listen attentively to spoken language and show understanding by joining in and responding.  They also learn to engage in conversations, ask and answer questions, speak in sentences and write phrases from memory.

Our teaching provides an appropriate balance of spoken and written language and lays the foundations for further foreign language learning at key stage 3.
